House of Representatives
Minnesota is partitioned into 8 congressional districts that define the areas represented by each Minnesota member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Olmsted county is in the First Congressional District (a.k.a. CD1). Boundaries of each district may be redrawn every 10 years, based on the national census. Each district is defined so as to have roughly the same population. All members of the U.S. House of Representatives are elected every two years.

Senate
As for every state, Minnesota has two U.S. senators. Each of them represents the entire state. Senators are elected to six year terms with roughly one-third of them elected every two years.
