Senate
Minnesota is partitioned into 67 senate districts that define the areas represented by each state senator. Olmsted county is part of state senate districts 29 and 30. Boundaries of each senate district may be redrawn every 10 years, based on the national census. Each district is defined so as to have roughly the same population. State senators are elected to four year terms with roughly half of them elected each two years. However, two years after each census, redistricting requires all senators to be up for election.
