Critical Race Theory (CRT) is just another example of a method of thinking called Critical Theory introduced by mostly German philosophers and academics in the 1800s (including Karl Marx) and formally defined in 1937. Critical Theory makes the following assumptions: All social institutions and traditions were set up by a group of people who held power, in order to maintain power and benefit themselves. These are the “oppressors.” Every problem in society is their fault. To find out who they are, just look at who has the power and wealth. Everyone else is the “oppressed.”The only way to fix society is to remove power from the oppressors. The state’s Department of Education revises its curricula by subject matter on a 10-year cycle. It’s currently revamping its social studies standards. The department describes its social studies standards work, provides public copies of the draft standards, and invites public comment on their second draft by August 16. The Center of the American Experiment is a Minnesota think tank based in the Cities. It does great work on a wide variety of subjects. Recently, it has published (at least) two articles related to these standards: Educrats unleashed: an exposé on the state’s revamp of Social Studies standards Raise Our Standards: a summary of how critical race theory is injected into the Social Studies standards all the way from kindergarten through high school. January 8, 2021 Dear Friends Happy New Year! Happy New Year Senate District 25! As we start the legislative year, I am wishing you and your family joy and happiness in the year ahead. Oath of Office and the First Days of Session Minnesota’s 2021 Legislative Session officially began on January 5. I, along with 66 other State Senators, took part in a swearing-in to office during a ceremony at the State Capitol. It is an honor to return to St. Paul and represent the amazing people of Dodge and Olmsted counties. This past year has been incredibly difficult for all Minnesotans, but finally, we can see some light at the end of the tunnel.
